Background image for 2D chart

It is possible to place a background image to a special range of a 2D chart i.e. left upper edge start at 170,20 and right lower edge ends at 300,600. Y axis is reverse. The range outside should be white. Zooming inside the chart should also zoom the background image. Which example i can use? The image is a png from a map. In the chart i have to draw some routes as lines with symbols.
